Roads, pavements and bridges in Wirral are set to benefit from more than £8 million of improvements over the coming year as part of the council’s annual Highway Structural Maintenance Programme.
The funding, provided through additional grants from the Government and money raised in Council Tax, will be used to carry out essential works on roads and pavements.
On 12 March, councillors voted to agree the programme, which is based on inspections by Highways Officers, nominations by councillors and requests from residents.
Resurfacing work is starting in late April and much of the programme takes place over the summer months when the days are longer and the weather generally kinder. These works may mean there is some disruption to road users while these essential works take place.
Some of the roads listed for repair have been carried over from 2023/24 while others have been listed for the first time.
There is also a separate fund to deal with urgent repairs (usually pot holes) which require fixing but don't involve the whole road being resurfaced. These repairs will be carried out throughout the year and residents can notify the council of pot holes at any time using this link.
