Families in Wirral who are raising a disabled or seriously ill child or young person are being urged to check out a new fund that could help with furniture and household products, clothing and toys, family breaks or even days out.
The grants are funded by the Department for Education and managed by Family Fund, to help these families. The deadline to apply is 31st March.
Before he was elected as a councillor in Moreton and Saughall Massie, Colin Baldwin worked with people who have autism, learning and physical difficulties. He also served as a volunteer driver for the Moreton Day Centre.
Colin said:
“Raising a child can be hard for any family and raising a disabled or seriously ill child even more so, especially when money is tight. This new fund could really help to make life a bit better for everyone in the family, whether it’s for additional specialist items in the home, toys or equipment and even just giving everyone a break.”
Families will be able to apply every two years, as the child grows and to be eligible, the person applying must be the main carer for a disabled or seriously ill child or young person aged 17 or younger and on a low income or in receipt of income-related benefits.
Families may also be eligible for extra Child Tax Credit for each disabled child they’re responsible for, or Disability Living Allowance for children.
