As Tuesday's deadline for nominations approaches, Wallasey Conservative Association has today confirmed that all 18 council seats in the constituency will be contested by local Conservative candidates. The elections take place on Thursday 4 May.
While Wirral's Green Party is hoping to secure three gains in the former rock solid Labour ward of Seacombe, in the other five wards it's the local Conservatives or Labour - Liberal Democrats, Greens and independents are too far behind and can't win here. A vote for the smaller parties just makes it easier for Labour.
Across Wirral, Labour needs to retain all the seats it currently holds, and make at least eight more seats to have full control of the Town Hall, without the need to work with other parties.
In October, we contacted candidates who had previously stood for us, as well as those supporters and members who had expressed an interest in standing as a candidate for the first time.
Councillor Paul Hayes, Chairman of the local Conservatives, said: "Thank you to everyone who replied to our invitation in October to come forward and be a candidate.
"Thanks also to the work of our members who have worked on candidate recruitment and approvals and the Campaign Committee.
"I am delighted we are seeing so many new candidates nominated and who are already working in our local teams.
"These are the last council elections until May 2027. The only way to avoid Wirral being lumbered with a Labour Council for the next four years is for local residents to use their three council votes for our candidates."
