Statement from local councillors Ian Lewis, Lesley Rennie and Paul Hayes (Wallasey Ward)
We are shocked by the shooting at the Lighthouse pub in the heart of Wallasey Village on Christmas Eve.
Today, instead of celebrating Christmas, families are grieving and our wider community is in shock.
Our immediate thoughts are with those families and also with the staff and customers who witnessed last night’s terrible events.
Taking weapons to a crowded, family pub on Christmas Eve shows that the person or people responsible are without conscience.
We urge anyone with information, and who like the rest of us is appalled at their actions on Christmas Eve, to act now.
Do not leave it to others to help take those responsible, and their weapons, off our streets.
And we encourage anyone with footage from phones, dashcams or CCTV of suspicious behaviour, including possibly a dark coloured Mercedes, to do the same.
Report them to Merseyside Police or, anonymously to Crimestoppers (quoting 1044 of 24 December).
We would like to thank the police for their actions so far, and their support for the wider community in Wallasey.
