Councillors have just received this update following the problems found in some schools built using Reinforced Autoclaved Aerated Concrete ('RAAC') mainly between the 1950s and 90s:
"All Wirral schools will open as planned for the start of term next week.
"The Department for Education (DfE) requested all authorities, academies and those with a legal responsibility for educational settings complete a return identifying the potential presence of RAAC in schools.
"The DfE provided the authority with a list of all schools it is responsible for, and a Wirral Council structural engineer has spent a considerable amount of time working through this list.
"Through a combination of in-person and remote inspections, the surveys found no presence of RAAC in any of those schools identified.
"Wirral Councils Asset Management Team will continue to work with all schools to monitor the situation for full assurance."
