The campaign to tackle fly-tipping at Carr Lane, Moreton has received a further boost today with news that penalty fines are rising to £1,000.
Last week, Councillor Vida Wilson handed the Mayor a petition signed by local residents calling for action on the problem at Carr Lane, including used of the recently-purchased mobile CCTV equipment.
Vida, along with local campaigners Colin Baldwin and Gary Bennett, believe the problem has been ignored for long enough.
Vida said: "Some of the fly-tipping we've seen at Carr Lane is clearly by commercial operators, using the lane to dump their waste rather than pay for it to be disposed of by the waste centres.
"The prospect of £1,000 fines will help the courts and the council to further crack down on those responsible and, along with greater use of mobile CCTV, hopefully make some of the perpetrators think twice.
"In the meantime, I'd like to thank everyone who has signed our petition (so far), whether in response to our recent leaflet or online."
