On Monday 20 March, councillors from across Wirral met at Wallasey Town Hall to receive reports from the various committees, petitions and agree (or try to) on various proposals.
At the meeting, Councillor Vida Wilson:
- Submitted the petition we are running for greater use of the Council's new mobile CCTV equipment to tackle fly tipping at Carr Lane - whether to deter or catch offenders. Thanks to everyone who signed this.
- Voted for the Council to write to the Secretary of State urging no further delay in the adoption of Wirral's long-awaited Local Plan. It was only after Labour lost control in 2019 that work finally started on a legally-required plan to protect our Green Belt. As a result of this delay, land around Saughall Massie has been put at risk.
- Thanked those councillors who are retiring at the elections in May - including Dave Mitchell (Lib Dem councillor) in Eastham (after 40 years' service').
- Voted to adopt the Council Pay Policy 2023-24, as agreed by the Policy & Resources Committee.
- Welcomed the news that Wirral Council has received a further £6 million (on top of the £9 million) from the Government to support those most affected by inflation. This money is used in the 'Household Support Fund'.
- Backed calls for more action to insulate homes - to help keep families keep warmer and spend less on home energy bills. In the meantime, check out the Sustainable Warmth Scheme and see if that could help.
- Welcomed Councillor Ivan Camphor (Pensby, Thingwall, Barnston) being recognised as 'Backbench Councillor of the Year' by the Mayor for this year's Andy Day Memorial Award
